Terms of Service
Effective [[EFFECTIVE DATE]]
These terms are an agreement between you and [[LEGAL ENTITY NAME]] ([[COMPANY NUMBER / REGISTERED ADDRESS]]) (“Sidefolk”, “we”, “us”). By creating an account or using Sidefolk on the web or in our mobile apps, you agree to them. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your data.
The service
Sidefolk is a household assistant. It turns things you give it (typed or pasted text, photos, PDFs, voice notes, emails you forward, WhatsApp messages you send it, and, if you switch them on, emails from your Gmail and text messages on an Android phone) into draft events, tasks, notes and invoices, and keeps a calendar you can share with your household. It can read events from a Google, Microsoft or iCloud calendar you connect.
We may change, add or remove features. If we remove a feature you pay for, we will tell you in advance where we reasonably can.
Your account
You must be at least [[MINIMUM AGE]] to create an account yourself. You are responsible for keeping access to your email account and devices secure, and for what happens under your account. Tell us promptly at support@sidefolk.app if you think someone else has access to it.
You keep ownership of everything you put into Sidefolk. You give us permission to store, process and display it only as needed to run the service for you and the people you share it with.
Households and children
A household owner can invite other people, including children and teenagers, and choose what each member can see. If you add or invite a child, you confirm that you are their parent or legal guardian, or have their parent or guardian’s permission, and you consent on their behalf to us processing their information as described in the Privacy Policy. [[PARENTAL CONSENT WORDING AND AGE RULES FOR CHILD/TEEN MEMBERS (see FEAT-23)]]
Anything you put in a shared calendar or shared list is visible to the members you share it with. If the household owner deletes their account, the household and what is stored in it are deleted too, unless ownership has been handed to another member first.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- break the law, or use Sidefolk to harass, harm or track anyone;
- connect an email account, calendar or phone that you do not have the right to use, or send us other people’s information without the right to do so;
- upload malware, or content that infringes someone else’s rights;
- try to get into other people’s data, probe or overload our systems, or get around usage limits or plan restrictions;
- copy, resell or reverse-engineer the service, except where the law allows it.
AI drafts need your check
Sidefolk uses AI (Google Gemini) to read what you give it and suggest events, tasks, notes and invoices. AI makes mistakes: it can misread a date, a time, an amount or a name. Everything it suggests is a draft. Drafts that come from scanned or forwarded messages always wait for you to confirm them. In the mobile app, a clear event you capture yourself may be added straight away, with an Undo shown for at least 30 seconds; you can turn on “always ask me” to review every one.
You are responsible for checking anything you rely on, especially appointments, deadlines, payments and anything about a child’s care. Sidefolk is not a medical, legal or financial service.
Subscriptions and payment
Sidefolk has a free plan and paid plans. Prices are shown before you pay, in the app store or on our website, and include or exclude tax as shown there.
Auto-renewal. Paid plans renew automatically at the end of each billing period, at the then-current price, until you cancel. If a plan includes a free trial, you will be charged when the trial ends unless you cancel before then. We will tell you in advance of a price increase.
Cancelling. Cancel where you subscribed:
- iPhone or iPad: in your Apple ID subscription settings (App Store). We cannot cancel an App Store subscription for you.
- Android: in Google Play, under Subscriptions. We cannot cancel a Google Play subscription for you.
- Web: on the Upgrade page, “Manage billing” opens the Stripe customer portal, where you can cancel.
Cancelling stops the next renewal. You keep paid features until the end of the period you have paid for, then move to the free plan. Your data stays.
Refunds. [[REFUND POLICY]]. Refunds for App Store and Google Play purchases are handled by Apple and Google under their own policies. Nothing in these terms limits your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 (New Zealand), the Consumer Protection Act 2019 (India) or other consumer law that cannot be excluded.
Connected accounts
When you connect Gmail, a calendar, WhatsApp or text-message scanning, you authorise us to access that account only for the features you switch on. You can disconnect at any time, in Sidefolk or in that provider’s settings. Those services are run by other companies under their own terms, and we are not responsible for them.
Ending your account
You can delete your account at any time from your account settings. Your account is closed straight away and permanently deleted after a 30-day grace period, during which you can restore it. Deleting your account does not cancel an App Store or Google Play subscription; cancel that in the store as well.
We may suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms, or where the law requires it. Where we reasonably can, we will warn you first and give you a chance to export your data.
Availability and liability
We work to keep Sidefolk available and your data safe, but the service is provided “as is” and may sometimes be unavailable, slow or wrong. Keep your own record of anything critical.
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, such as a missed appointment, lost profit or lost data, and our total liability to you for any claim is limited to [[LIABILITY CAP, e.g. the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim]]. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law.
Changes to these terms
If we make a material change, we will update the effective date and tell you in the app or by email at least [[NOTICE PERIOD]] before it applies. If you keep using Sidefolk after that, the new terms apply. If you do not agree, you can cancel and delete your account.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of [[GOVERNING LAW]], and disputes go to the courts of [[JURISDICTION / VENUE]]. If you are a consumer, you also keep any protection given by the law of the country you live in.
